Over the course of the 2014 Web Summit, the IDA Ireland Emerging Business Team worked tirelessly to organise two specific and unique IDA events.
1. THE IDA’s VIP Night at the MuseumOn Wed 5th of November the IDA Emerging Business Team held a VIP reception at the National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology on Kildare Street. The National Museum provided a beautiful and unique location to host the networking event. Our guests were treated to a whiskey tasting, canapés and entertainment from the traditional Irish band, Celtic Live, led by Stephen Fagan and a high tempo Irish dancing performance by the team from dynamic events, all whilst surrounded by some of Ireland's most historic artefacts. Additionally, we had a very special guest, Bono, gave a rousing speech from the museum's balcony to an elated audience below. (See the video below). The event was a massive success and would have matched any Catalina wine mixer out there.
Concurrent with the reception at the museum, earlier in the evening IDA Ireland was pleased to announce 8 new companies setting up in Ireland to scale their businesses internationally, creating a total of 400 new positions around the country. The new jobs will be spread across a number of sectors with a range of activities such as Software Development, Telecoms, Internet, Digital & Social Media.
- Udemy
- N3
- Sprout Social
- Boomerang Pharmaceutical Communication
- Perseus Telecom Ltd
- HedgeGuard
- Simplivity
- SNP Communications.

2.The IDA Ireland Web Summit Breakfast
The IDA Ireland breakfast was held every morning (8am-11am) of the Web Summit in the recently opened Bar “The Bridge 1859” owned by Ireland’s rugby stars Jamie Heaslip, Sean O’ Brien and brother’s Dave and Rob Kearney. The bar, located conveniently beside the RDS in Ballsbridge, provided us with the perfect location to dish out breakfast to attendees of the web summit.
The event itself was an overall success. The combination of a relaxed atmosphere along with multiple cups of coffee complimented with pastries and a selection of meats provided for perfect networking opportunities and thus lead to a packed room each morning. We even had Jamie Heaslip drop in for a chat, which was a nice surprise.
